MBAT Certification Overview

There are three MBAT certification training distinctions

The MBAT certification training is organized in to three levels of researched based training.
Each training level is designed to teach the mental health professional how to incorporate
mindfulness based information, materials, tools and practices in to their addiction and trauma therapy work
in order to help clients gain long term recovery and reduce trauma.

  1. Mindfulness Based Addiction Therapist Certification or the “MBAT-C”

    This is awarded to master or doctoral level clinical mental health professionals, including Psychologists, Psychiatrists, LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCs.

    The candidate will be awarded the MBAT-C upon completion, verification and approval of the following:

  • Completing the three MBAT training levels 

    -Level I & III in person, Level II online

  • 25 hours of MBAT supervision 

    - 10 of which are face-to-face and can be done via video

  • Submission and verification of appropriate paperwork

    - Copy of professional license, proof of liability insurance, copy of I.D.

  • Submission of the TMAATT application

  • Recommendation from your MBAT Supervisor

  • Two letters of recommendation from clinical peers

 

 

2. Mindfulness Based Addiction Therapist Associate or “MBAT-A”

This is awarded to post graduate, pre-licensed mental health professionals, including Psychologists, Psychiatrists, LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCs. 

The candidate will be awarded the MBAT-C upon completion, verification and approval of the following:

  • Completing the three training levels

    -Level I & III in person, Level II online 

  • 25 hours of supervision

    -10 of which are face-to-face and can be done via video

  • Submission and verification of appropriate paperwork

    - Copy of professional license, proof of liability insurance, copy of I.D.

  • Submission of the TMAATT application

  • Recommendation from your MBAT Supervisor

  • Two letters of recommendation from clinical peers

NOTE: Once the MBAT associate has completed the above, and has obtained their professional clinical license, they may then submit verification of

their licensure along with the appropriate paperwork, the TMAATT application, and upon approval will then graduate from the MBAT-A to the MBAT-C.

 
 

 

3. Mindfulness Based Addiction Therapist Supervisor or “MBAT-S”

This is awarded to master or doctoral level clinical mental health professionals, including Psychologists, Psychiatrists, LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCs who:

  • Is a licensed mental health professional in good standing 

  • Has been a MBAT-C certified therapist for a minimum of 3 years

  • Consistently participates in mindfulness 

  • Has a mindfulness based therapy practice 

  • Has supervised associates for a minimum of 4 years 

  • Has completed the MBAT-S Supervision Training Course

  • Has met with a MBAT Supervisor for 5 Supervision Hours 

  • Has submitted the appropriate paperwork, the TMAATT application, and upon verification and approval will be awarded the MBAT-S. 


 

MBAT Certification CEU Renewal Information

Each MBAT designation will require 12 training CEUs every two years to renew certification.

CEUs can be obtained through The Mindfulness Academy for Addiction & Trauma Training (TMAATT) in one of three ways:

  1. Attending a TMAATT refresher on site training

  2. Attending an online class through TMAATT 

  3. Attending the TMAATT annual weekend retreat
